Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller has said that he is only focused on his duties with the European champions and is not thinking about a possible return to the German side. The attacker was excluded from Joachim Loew’s side shortly after the 2018 World Cup and he has since failed to make a single appearance for the nation in any competition.

In this period, Germany have produced some mixed results and they were recently given a hiding after a thumping 6-0 loss to Spain in the Nations League. Germany head coach Joachim Loew has stressed the team is not going to ‘break apart’ following the shock 1-0 defeat to Mexico on Sunday. The defeat was Germany’s first in their opening World Cup since 1982 but Loew insists there is ‘ample opportunity’ for the reigning champions to get back on track.

Speaking after the game, he said: “We didn’t play well today… It can happen, you have to accept it. And we will not just break apart now and become completely headless and do something completely different… we have a clear structure and we will continue to look forward, there is no need to break up and panic simply because we lost a match. We will not change our gameplan. If we play out our ideas then we have players who are able to deliver.”

German head coach Joachim Loew admitted that it was a difficult decision to exclude Sandro Wagner from his provisional squad for the summer World Cup. The Bayern Munich striker has been one of the top performing German strikers in recent years but Loew decided to omit in place of uncapped Nils Petersen from Freiburg.

Speaking to reporters, Loew stressed that he had to look upon the welfare of the team and he took the responsibility of informing the key players who were excluded from the World Cup squad. He said:“My job as national manager is unfortunately also to shatter dreams and make hard decisions. It is never against a player, but always in the interests of the team. Sandro showed his class when he was with us. He played for us with full commitment and he has a very, very good character. In the end, minor factors were decisive.”

Speaking to reporters, Heynckes admitted that there is no hurry for Neuer to make his return, and the club are prepared to wait for his full recovery, he said: “We are not pressuring him. There is no timeframe, there is no deadline. Personally, I am convinced that he will play for us and will play in the World Cup but in the end that is something he has to decide, together with the medical team, when he returns. He can’t afford to take any risk and I don’t think he will.”
