Reigning European champions Chelsea have increased their advantage at the Premier League summit to three points after the win over Newcastle United at St. James Park on Saturday. The away win over Newcastle United and the dropped points from nearest challengers Liverpool and Manchester City ensured that Chelsea were able to stretch their advantage at the top.

Chelsea began the latest set of Premier League matches with a one-point lead over Liverpool and a two-point lead over holders Manchester City. Liverpool and Manchester City occupy the second and third position respectively on the league standings.

The Blues produced an impressive second half performance to blow struggling Newcastle United away and record a big win thanks to a brace from Reece James and a penalty from Jorginho.

England international James scored the first of his two goals with twenty second half minutes gone. Chelsea Academy graduate James completed his brace on 77 minutes. Germany national team star KaiHavertz was then fouled in the box thus paving the way for Italian international Jorginho to seal the 3-0 victory over Newcastle United.Newcastle United shot stopper Karl Darlow brought down Germany attacker Havertzin the box and that gave Jorginho the chance to wrap up the game with nine minutes left on the clock.

Despite the absence of key attacking players such as RomeluLukaku, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount, Chelsea were able to take the three points on offer from the Newcastle United game. England international James, Italy midfielder Jorginho and Germany national team star Havertz all stepped up to propel Chelsea to victory.

Chelsea now have a three-point advantage at the Premier League summit after nearest challengers Liverpool lost a two-goal lead for a 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion at home. For Manchester City, the defending champions are five points adrift of Chelsea after the 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
